SRH12 Timken Block-on-Ring Friction and Wear Test Machine, also known as the Timken tester, measures the load-carrying capacity of various lubricants (lubricating oils, greases, and solid lubricant films). Under specified test conditions, it compares the maximum test force a lubricant can withstand before the oil film ruptures, known as the OK value. It complies with the national standard SH/T 0203-1992 "Determination of Extreme Pressure Performance of Grease (Timken Block-on-Ring Test Method)" and employs a line contact sliding friction method to evaluate the friction and wear performance of test samples. The working principle involves a standard rotating ring as the active component and a fixed rectangular block of standard dimensions as the passive component. By measuring the width of strip-shaped wear marks on the passive rectangular block under varying loads, as well as the friction force and coefficient between the friction pair materials, the load-carrying capacity of the lubricant and the friction-wear performance of the materials are assessed. It can evaluate the lubricating performance of various lubricants under oil-immersion conditions, particularly suitable for simulating the anti-scuffing performance of medium to high automotive gear oils. It is also applicable for studying the wear performance of various metals, non-metals, and coatings.

The machine features a frame-type structure, with servo motor-controlled lever loading and modular parameter setup for convenient operation. It ensures accurate and reliable test readings. The integrated design combines a computer, software, industrial control modules, and actuators within a single frame, enabling full experimental process control. It can collect test data in real time, plot corresponding test curves, and freely store, retrieve, or print test data or curves

OK value: The maximum mass (weight) added to the load lever weight pan during the determination of lubricant load-carrying capacity without causing scuffing or seizure.

Scratch value: The minimum mass (weight) added to the load lever weight pan during the measurement of lubricant load capacity when scratches or scuffing occur

Method Overview:

Before the test begins, the specimen must be preheated to 37.8°C ± 2.8°C. During the test, a steel test ring rotates closely against a steel test block at a speed of 123.71 m/min ± 0.77 m/min, which corresponds to an axle speed of 800 r/min ± 5 r/min.

Two values to be determined: the minimum mass (weight) that causes scuffing or scratching due to oil film rupture between the rotating test ring and the fixed test block, i.e., the scuffing value. The maximum mass (weight) that does not cause scuffing or scratching without oil film rupture between the rotating test ring and the fixed test block, i.e., the OK value.
