Reasons for lowering the flash point of lubricating oil
The flash point of the lubricating oil is the lowest temperature at which the oil surface can flicker under the specified test conditions.
When the volatile oil and gas on the surface of the oil mixed with the oxygen in the air, if the flash point is low, it is easy to flash, so the main problem of the drop of the flash point of the lubricating oil is likely to cause combustion and even fire problems, if the flash will damage the seal and cause leakage.
The higher the flash point of the lubricating oil, the better, but the higher the flash point does not mean that the lubricating oil has excellent high temperature performance.
Cracking of base oil is one of the reasons for the decrease of flash point of lubricating oil. When oil or equipment is near high temperature heat source, such as high temperature steam, high temperature furnace, etc., if the oil temperature of lubricating oil is higher than 550℃, cracking may occur, resulting in the decrease of flash point of lubricating oil.
