Determination of rotary oxygen bomb oxidation stability of lubricating oil
Oxidative stability refers to the service life of lubricating oil.
When the lubricating oil is used for a longer time, it is constantly in contact with the outside oxygen, water and dust, which leads to the shorter and shorter life of oil products.
Generally, the oxidation stability test of oil is a rotating oxygen bomb. The longer the rotating oxygen bomb test time is, the better the oxidation stability of oil is.
The ability of lubricants to resist oxidation deterioration is called the stability of lubricants.
Lubricating oil stability is divided into two kinds: oxidation resistance stability and thermal oxidation stability.
The first is oxidation stability, is a thick layer of lubricating oil (oil layer thickness is greater than 200μm) under the action of high temperature and oxygen in the air, oxidation resistance ability, lubricating oil at room temperature is very stable, but at high temperature, in a very short time, the oil color black, viscosity change, acid value increases, precipitation.
Lubricants generally do not oxidize easily below 30°C, but oxidize violently above 150°C.
Such is the case with the oxidation of lubricants in internal combustion engine oils, gearboxes, transformers, or oil pipelines.
Therefore, it requires good oxidation resistance of lubricating oil.
Antioxidants are added to some lubricants to enhance antioxidant stability.
The other is thermal oxidation stability, which is the ability of thin layer of lubricating oil (oil layer thickness less than 200μm) to resist oxidation under the action of oxygen in the air at high temperature.
This is the case, for example, between the pistons and cylinders of an internal combustion engine and between the bearings of a steam turbine.
At this time, the working temperature of the lubricating oil is higher (200-300°C), and the catalytic oxidation of the lubricating oil by metals is also stronger.
Oxidation results will generate a layer of adhesive film, covering the metal parts, so that wear increases, power reduction, heat conduction difficulties, serious will lead to the burning of parts.
