The copper strip corrosion color comparison plate is made by full-color processing and consists of 13 typical test copper strips representing the loss of gloss surface and the degree of corrosion increase. For protection, these corrosion standard color plates are embedded in plastic panels. Instructions for the use of corrosion standard color plates are provided on the reverse side of each standard color plate. To avoid possible discoloration of color plates, corroded standard color plates should be stored away from light.

The copper strip corrosion color comparison plate used in the test should be compared with another (new) corrosion standard color plate carefully protected from light to check its discoloration. Under scattered sunlight (or light equivalent to scattered sunlight), observe the color palette: first look directly from above, and then look at it from a 45 degree angle. If any signs of discoloration are observed, especially on the leftmost color plate of the corrosion standard color plate, discard the color plate.

Another way to check for discoloration of a corrosion standard color plate is to place a 20mm wide opaque sheet (light shield) on top of the colored portion of the corrosion standard color plate when purchasing a new color plate. Remove the opaque sheet frequently to check for signs of discoloration in the exposed portion. If any discoloration is found, this corrosion standard color plate should be replaced. If the surface of the plastic plate shows excessive scratches, the corrosion standard color plate should also be replaced.
